Any patient with localized prostate cancer may be a candidate for HIFU. Ideal HIFU Patient Any patient diagnosed with clinically localized disease that has a relatively small prostate (under 40 cc). This patient desires potency preservation, low incontinence risk, and understands the paradigm of ablation therapy.
Presenting HIFU as a Treatment Option HIFU may be a realistic treatment option for many men looking for a non-invasive option that can preserve their quality of life. It is important to present all treatment options to patients and discuss which options are best for them.
Radition Failures & Recurrent Prostate Cancer HIFU can treat patients who experience recurrence after radition therapy, both external beam radiation and brachytherapy. Additionally, patients who have a local recurrence after receiving a radical prostatectomy may be candidates for Sonablate® HIFU.
