Omega 3 Fatty Acids May Increase Prostate Cancer Risk

Posted on in Prevention

Studies have found in recent years that omega-3 fatty acids, an ingredient in fish oil, may help prevent aliments such as heart disease and Alzheimer's. This had led to an increased consumption of fatty fish such as salmon and tuna, along with omega-3 fish oil supplements.

Unfortunately a link may be been discovered between fish oil and prostate cancer. A study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute found that men with a high concentration of omega-3's in their blood have a 43% greater risk of prostate cancer than those with low levels of omega-3's.

Experts recommend men try to eat healthy, well balanced diets, and to speak to their physician to find out if fatty fish and/or fish oil supplements are safe for them.
